Turn Off the Phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM tray on the left edge and push firmly to eject it.

Heat the Back Cover Edges
2 minApply mild heat from a heat gun or hair dryer around the perimeter of the back cover for 1 to 2 minutes to soften the adhesive clips.

Insert a Plastic Pry Tool
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam between the back cover and the display frame near the SIM tray slot.

Unclip the Perimeter
3 minSlide the plastic pry tool along all edges of the device to release the internal plastic clips.

Open the Back Cover Carefully
2 minGently lift the back cover toward the right side like a book, taking care not to strain the attached fingerprint sensor cable.

Remove Motherboard Bracket Screws
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper plastic motherboard frame.

Lift Off the Upper Bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the plastic motherboard shield from the top of the phone.

Disconnect the Fingerprint Sensor
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable off its motherboard connector.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
1 minPry up the main battery connector from the motherboard to cut power to the device completely.

Apply Isopropyl Alcohol
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and bottom edges of the battery to weaken the adhesive.

Pull the Adhesive Release Tabs
3 minGently pull the black battery adhesive release tabs outward at a low angle, wrapping them slowly around a spudger if needed.

Pry Up the Battery
2 minInsert a flat plastic spudger under the edge of the battery and carefully pry it upward from the frame.

Lift Out the Old Battery
1 minLift the degraded battery out of the recess and dispose of it at an appropriate battery recycling center.

Install New Battery Adhesive
2 minApply fresh double-sided battery adhesive strips flat into the empty battery compartment.

Position the Replacement Battery
2 minPlace the new battery into the housing and press down evenly to secure it against the adhesive strips.

Reconnect the Battery Cable
1 minAlign the battery press connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it clicks into place.

Reconnect Fingerprint Sensor Cable
1 minAlign the back cover near the device and snap the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable onto its motherboard socket.

Reinstall Upper Motherboard Bracket
2 minPlace the motherboard shield back onto the chassis and tighten all Phillips #000 screws securely.

Snap the Back Cover Closed
2 minAlign the back cover over the frame and press along all edges until every clip snaps back into place.
After your Motorola G20 battery replacement
