Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the card tray. Pull the tray completely out of the device.

Pry the back cover seam
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the thin gap between the rear cover and the front bezel near the SIM slot. Gently twist the pick to unlatch the first retaining clip.

Release the back cover clips
4 minSlide the plastic pick along all four edges of the device to unclip the rear plastic cover. Do not lift the cover away quickly as the fingerprint reader cable is still attached.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minSlightly lift the back cover to access the fingerprint sensor flex cable. Use a spudger to pop the connector straight up from the motherboard.

Remove the speaker cover screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the seven screws holding the lower speaker housing in place.

Pry up the speaker cover
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the top notch of the speaker housing. Lift and remove the module to expose the bottom daughterboard.

Disconnect the interconnect ribbon cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the main interconnect cable connector straight up from the lower sub-board.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minGrasp the antenna head with precision tweezers and pop it straight up to disconnect it from the daughterboard.

Remove the daughterboard
3 minPry carefully under the bottom edge of the daughterboard with a spudger to free it from the adhesive underneath. Lift the board with the attached microphone out of the frame.

Install the replacement daughterboard
2 minAlign the new sub-board containing the primary microphone with the plastic pegs on the bottom recess and press it down firmly.

Connect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minPosition the antenna cable connector over its socket on the new sub-board and gently press down until it clicks into place.

Connect the interconnect ribbon cable
2 minAlign the main interconnect flex connector over the bottom board socket and press down until you feel a firm click.

Position the speaker cover
2 minLower the plastic speaker module back over the bottom assembly, aligning the screw holes with the phone frame.

Secure the speaker cover screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the seven Phillips #00 screws to secure the speaker housing.

Connect the fingerprint sensor cable
3 minHold the back cover near the device and reattach the fingerprint sensor press connector to its socket on the mainboard.

Snap the back cover into place
3 minAlign the back cover against the phone body and squeeze firmly along the perimeter until all internal clips snap shut.

Reinsert the SIM card tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the left frame until it sits flush against the housing.
