Step-by-step

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left side of the device. Push firmly inward to release the tray, then pull it out of the frame.

Pry open the rear cover seam
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the back panel and display frame near the SIM slot. Slide the pick around the perimeter to disengage the internal plastic clips.

Detach the rear cover
2 minGently lift the back cover away from the phone, being careful not to strain the attached fingerprint sensor cable. Rest the cover right side up next to the chassis.

Remove motherboard bracket screws
4 minUse a Precision Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 11 screws securing the plastic motherboard protective bracket. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

Remove the motherboard bracket
2 minPry up the edges of the plastic top bracket using a plastic spudger. Lift the bracket clear of the motherboard and set it aside.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the fingerprint sensor press-connector straight off the motherboard socket. Set the detached rear cover aside.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press-connector straight up off the board with a plastic spudger. Disconnecting power prevents accidental electrical shorts during repair.

Disconnect the display flex cable
2 minLever the main display flex connector up from its socket on the lower edge of the logic board. Handle the ribbon connector gently to avoid damaging pins.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable
2 minPry up the lower ribbon connector linking the motherboard to the daughterboard using a plastic spudger. Lift the flex end out of the way.

Unplug the antenna coaxial cables
3 minGently wedge fine-tip tweezers beneath the metal antenna cable heads and pop both black and white coaxial cables off the logic board.

Remove the rear camera module
3 minDisconnect the rear camera array flex cables from the board with a spudger. Lift the camera housing out and place it in a dust-free space.

Lift out the logic board
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the bottom edge of the motherboard and lever it gently up. Pull the board out of the chassis alignment pins.

Inspect the circuit board
5 minExamine the logic board under a magnifying glass to locate broken solder joints, bridged pins, or liquid corrosion. Identify the damaged micro-components.

Clean corrosion with isopropyl alcohol
4 minDip an ESD-safe brush into 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub damaged surface pads. Blot excess moisture with a microfiber swab.

Reflow cold solder joints
8 minApply liquid rosin flux to the target component leads. Touch a pre-heated soldering iron tip with desoldering braid or fresh solder to reflow the joint until clean.

Reinstall the logic board
3 minAlign the top edge of the repaired logic board with the chassis cutouts and press it down firmly. Ensure no ribbon cables are trapped underneath.
