Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before beginning.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the side of the phone. Push inward firmly to eject the card tray, then set it aside.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply heat evenly around the outer perimeter of the rear cover using a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting for two minutes.

Slice the rear adhesive
4 minApply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and lift up. Insert a plastic prying tool into the seam and slide along the edges to release the adhesive.

Lift away the rear cover
2 minGently swing open the rear panel. Unclip any fingerprint reader flex cable if attached, then lift the back cover off completely.

Unscrew the upper midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the protective upper midframe bracket to the chassis.

Remove the midframe bracket
2 minInsert a flat plastic spudger around the edges of the plastic midframe shield and gently pry up to unclip and remove it.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to prevent short circuits.

Unplug the volume button flex
2 minLocate the volume button flex connector on the motherboard edge and pop it free using a plastic opening tool.

Peel up the volume flex cable
3 minSlide a thin spudger or tweezers under the volume flex ribbon on the inner side of the frame to break the light adhesive holding it down.

Install the new volume button flex
3 minPlace the replacement volume button flex cable into the frame recess, ensuring metal contacts align with the exterior buttons.

Connect the volume flex ribbon
2 minAlign the press connector of the new volume flex cable over its motherboard terminal and push down until it snaps firmly into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery terminal connector over its socket and press straight down to reconnect power.

Reattach midframe and seal housing
5 minSnap the midframe bracket into position, tighten all Phillips screws, reapply rear adhesive tape, and press the back cover firmly into place.
After your Motorola G05 volume button repair
Power the G05 back on and test the volume button repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
