Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray. Press firmly straight in to pop out the tray and set it aside.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply heat to the outer edges of the rear cover with a heat gun on low setting for two minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the rear cover. Pull upward with steady pressure to create a small gap along the seam.

Insert plastic opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of a plastic prying pick into the gap created by the suction cup.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the plastic pick along the outer edges of the phone to separate the back cover adhesive.

Lift rear cover carefully
2 minGently swing the rear cover open to the right side like a book cover. Do not pull it completely away yet.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pop off the fingerprint/power button flex connector from the motherboard board socket.

Unscrew upper midframe cover
3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws holding the upper plastic midframe cover to the chassis.

Remove upper midframe
2 minPry under the edge of the upper midframe shield with a spudger and lift it off the frame.

Disconnect battery connector
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic spudger to disconnect power.

Unseat power button flex
2 minUse precision tweezers to gently peel the power button flex cable away from the internal sidewall of the housing.

Remove power button bracket
2 minPry out the small metal retaining bracket securing the physical power button inside the chassis slot.

Extract old power button
2 minPush the physical power button key inward using tweezers and pull the damaged button assembly out of the phone.

Insert new power button
2 minPosition the replacement power button key into the side housing slot from inside the frame.

Install retaining bracket
2 minPress the metal retaining bracket firmly back over the power button mechanism to secure it in place.

Adhere new flex cable
2 minAlign the power button flex cable against the internal housing wall and press it down to stick the adhesive.

Reconnect battery and midframe
3 minSnap the battery connector back onto the motherboard, reposition the upper midframe, and tighten the Phillips screws.
After your Motorola G05 power button repair
Power the G05 back on and test the power button repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
