Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power Off the Moto G04
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely shut down before starting.
- 2
Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the left side of the device. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it completely.
- 3
Heat the Rear Panel Edges
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes. This softens the adhesive sealing the cover to the frame.
- 4
Slice the Rear Cover Adhesive
3 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back cover and pull gently to create a gap. Slide a plastic prying tool into the gap and run it along the perimeter to slice the adhesive.
- 5
Remove the Back Cover
2 minLift the rear plastic panel away from the chassis. Set it aside in a clean workspace.
- 6
Unscrew the Upper Motherboard Shield
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all retaining screws from the upper motherboard cover.
- 7
Remove the Upper Frame Shield
2 minPry up the edges of the plastic motherboard shield with a spudger and remove it from the device.
- 8
Disconnect the Battery Flex Cable
1 minLocate the battery flex connector on the motherboard. Pry it straight up with a plastic spudger to cut power to the device.
- 9
Disconnect the Volume Key Flex Connector
1 minFind the side key flex ribbon connector near the side edge of the motherboard. Use a spudger to gently pop the connector off its socket.
- 10
Peel Off the Damaged Volume Flex Cable
2 minUse fine tweezers to carefully peel the volume button flex cable away from the inner sidewall of the midframe.
- 11
Position the New Volume Button Flex Cable
2 minRemove any protective backing from the new flex assembly. Carefully align and press the new ribbon into place inside the frame channel.
- 12
Reconnect the Side Key and Battery Cables
2 minSnap the volume key flex connector back onto the motherboard socket, followed by the battery flex connector.
- 13
Reattach the Upper Frame Shield
3 minAlign the upper motherboard shield onto the frame and press down gently. Secure it by reinstalling all Phillips screws.
- 14
Seal the Rear Cover and Reinsert SIM Tray
3 minApply fresh pre-cut adhesive or B-7000 to the frame, press the rear panel firmly into place, and push the SIM tray back into its slot.
