Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is entirely shut down before starting.

Remove the rear cover
2 minInsert an opening pick or fingernail into the notch at the bottom edge of the back shell. Pry upward to unclip the outer rear cover.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the tray hole along the side frame. Push firmly to pop out the tray and remove it.

Remove the midframe screws
5 minUse a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the fourteen screws securing the inner plastic midframe assembly.

Pry up the plastic midframe
3 minInsert the flat end of a spudger around the perimeter seam of the midframe cover. Pop the clips free and lift the midframe off the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

Disconnect the microphone flex cable
2 minLocate the primary microphone flex cable at the bottom of the board. Carefully pop its press-fit connector off the mainboard with a spudger.

Remove lower bracket screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the bottom microphone module and rubber gasket bracket.

Extract the old microphone module
2 minGently lift the microphone flex module out of the lower recess using precision tweezers.

Install the new microphone module
2 minSet the replacement microphone flex module into the bottom recess, making sure the microphone hole aligns with the outer frame opening.

Secure the lower bracket
2 minReinstall the two Phillips #000 screws to hold the microphone module and rubber gasket firmly in place.

Attach the microphone flex connector
2 minAlign the press-fit flex connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the battery
1 minAlign the battery cable connector with its socket on the motherboard and press straight down to secure it.

Reinstall the plastic midframe
2 minPlace the midframe over the device body and press around the edges until all peripheral plastic clips snap into position.

Reinsert the midframe screws
5 minDrive the fourteen Torx T3 screws back into the inner midframe until snug.

Reattach the rear cover
2 minAlign the outer back shell with the phone and press firmly along all sides until it snaps completely closed.
After your Motorola G microphone repair
Power the G back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
