Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off to shut down the phone completely.

Remove back cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the notch near the micro-USB port and lift the back cover off.

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the SIM card tray and push firmly to eject it.

Remove upper midframe screws
2 minUse a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the four upper screws securing the plastic midframe.

Remove lower midframe screws
2 minUnscrew the bottom four Torx T3 screws from the lower section of the inner housing.

Remove remaining midframe screws
2 minRemove the six remaining Torx T3 screws around the sides and center of the frame.

Pry up midframe edge
2 minInsert a spudger into the seam between the midframe and the front panel near the top corner.

Detach plastic midframe
2 minRun the spudger around the perimeter to release the plastic clips and lift off the midframe.

Peel back tape
1 minUse tweezers to carefully peel back the black tape covering the battery flex connector.

Disconnect battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Apply adhesive solvent
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and side edges of the battery.

Wait for adhesive softening
2 minLet the phone sit flat for two minutes so the alcohol can loosen the battery adhesive.

Pry up battery
2 minSlide a plastic opening card beneath the battery from the left side and gently lift it up.

Remove old adhesive
2 minScrape off residual glue from the battery well using a plastic spudger.

Apply fresh adhesive
2 minPlace new double-sided battery adhesive strips into the recessed battery bay.

Position new battery
1 minSet the new battery into the well and press down firmly to secure it to the adhesive.

Attach battery connector
1 minAlign the flex connector over the socket on the motherboard and press down until it clicks into place.

Reapply protective tape
1 minPress the black protective tape back over the battery connector to prevent accidental disconnection.

Reposition plastic midframe
1 minAlign the plastic midframe over the motherboard assembly and snap it into position.

Secure midframe screws
3 minReinstall all fourteen Torx T3 screws to securely fasten the plastic midframe.

Reinsert SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until flush.

Attach back cover
1 minAlign the outer back cover over the phone body and press firmly along all edges to snap it on.

Test device power
2 minPress and hold the power button to start the device and verify that the new battery accepts a charge.
