Step-by-step

Turn off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select power off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Remove SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left side of the phone and press firmly to eject the tray.

Heat back cover edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer perimeter of the back cover for two minutes to soften internal clips and light adhesive.

Pry back cover seam
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the plastic back cover and the front frame near the SIM slot.

Unclip back cover perimeter
3 minSlide the plastic pick along the entire perimeter of the device to release all retention clips.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor
2 minGently lift the back cover without pulling it away completely, then use a spudger to detach the fingerprint reader flex cable from the board.

Remove back cover
1 minSet the freed back cover aside in a clean, dust-free area.

3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the top plastic motherboard bracket.

Remove motherboard shield
