Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Make sure the device is completely powered down before proceeding.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole next to the card tray. Press firmly to pop the tray out and remove it.

Heat the rear cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to apply mild heat around the perimeter of the back panel for about two minutes. This softens the internal adhesive gasket.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel. Gently pull up on the ring to create a slight gap between the panel and the frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Avoid inserting the pick too deeply to protect internal ribbon cables.

Slice through the rear adhesive
3 minSlide the plastic pick along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the adhesive seal. Work slowly around the fingerprint reader area near the center.

Lift the rear cover slightly
2 minCarefully hinge the back cover open toward the right side of the device. Do not pull it away completely yet, as the fingerprint sensor cable remains attached.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the fingerprint reader flex cable connector straight up from the motherboard. Set the rear cover aside.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower loudspeaker assembly to the main frame.

Pry up the speaker module
2 minInsert a spudger under the designated notch on the loudspeaker housing. Carefully pry the speaker module up and remove it from the phone.

Install the new speaker module
2 minPosition the replacement loudspeaker into the lower frame cavity. Press down evenly on the edges until it sits flush.

Secure the speaker screws
3 minReinstall all the Phillips #000 screws into the loudspeaker assembly and tighten them until snug.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minHold the back cover near the phone body and align the fingerprint flex connector over its socket. Press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Apply fresh rear cover adhesive
3 minClean remaining old adhesive off the frame using isopropyl alcohol, then apply new pre-cut adhesive strips around the edges.

Reseal the rear cover
2 minAlign the back cover precisely with the body of the phone and press firmly along all edges to seat the adhesive.
