Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off. Ensure the device is completely powered down before starting.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the hole next to the SIM tray. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat the back cover
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat around the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the rear cover and press down firmly to create a seal.

Create an initial gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup handle and insert a plastic prying tool into the gap between the rear cover and frame.

Slice through perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the plastic opening pick along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the adhesive tape.

Lift the back cover carefully
2 minSlightly lift the left edge of the rear cover like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet, as the fingerprint cable remains attached.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the fingerprint sensor flex cable off its motherboard connector.

Remove the upper cover screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips #000 screws securing the plastic motherboard bezel at the top of the phone.

Remove the upper motherboard shield
2 minPry up and remove the top plastic bracket using a spudger to access the internal connectors.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery flex cable from the motherboard to prevent electrical shorts.

Unscrew the speaker housing
3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws holding the loudspeaker assembly at the bottom of the phone.

Pry up the speaker module
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the lower speaker assembly and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the main interconnect cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to detach the main ribbon cable connector from the daughterboard.

Disconnect the antenna coaxial cable
2 minGently pry up the head of the coaxial antenna cable from the daughterboard using fine tweezers.

Remove the old charging port sub-board
2 minInsert a plastic pry tool underneath the charging port sub-board and lift it out from the housing frame.

Position the new charging port sub-board
2 minAlign the replacement charging port board into the lower recess of the phone frame and press it gently into place.

Reconnect the antenna coaxial cable
2 minCarefully align the coaxial connector over its socket on the new board and press straight down until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the main interconnect cable
1 minAlign and press the main ribbon flex connector firmly down onto the sub-board socket.

Reinstall the speaker housing
3 minPlace the loudspeaker assembly back over the daughterboard and secure it with the original Phillips screws.

Reconnect the battery
1 minSnap the battery flex cable connector back onto the main motherboard.

Reattach the upper motherboard shield
3 minSet the top plastic bracket back onto the motherboard and reinstall all upper screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minHold the back cover near the frame and press the fingerprint reader cable connector back onto its motherboard socket.

Apply new back cover adhesive
4 minApply replacement adhesive strips along the perimeter frame, then press the back cover firmly down to seal.
After your Motorola G Power charging port repair
Power the G Power back on and test the charging port repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Motorola G Power job before assuming the part is defective.
