Step-by-step

Eject the SIM Card Tray
2 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the card tray. Press firmly to pop the tray out and set it aside.

Heat the Back Cover
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the rear panel and pull upward to create a small gap.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minSlide an opening pick into the gap between the plastic rear panel and the phone frame.

Slice Perimeter Adhesive
4 minMove the pick along all edges of the rear panel to cut through the remaining perimeter adhesive tape.

Open Rear Cover Carefully
2 minPivot the rear cover open from the right edge like a book, being careful not to tear the attached fingerprint reader flex cable.

Remove Fingerprint Sensor Screw
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the metal bracket over the fingerprint sensor connector.

Disconnect Fingerprint Sensor
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the fingerprint reader ribbon cable straight up from its socket on the motherboard.

Unscrew Upper Motherboard Cover
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws holding the black plastic motherboard housing in place.

Detach Motherboard Cover
2 minPry up the edges of the motherboard cover with a spudger and lift it off the frame.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic pry tool.

Disconnect Interconnect Cables
2 minDisconnect the main interconnect and display flex cables running over the top of the battery.

Apply Adhesive Remover
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under the edges of the battery to weaken the factory adhesive.

Pry Out Old Battery
5 minInsert a flat plastic opening card under the battery and carefully lever it up out of the recessed bay.

Clean Battery Recess
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the battery compartment using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Install New Battery
3 minApply fresh pre-cut adhesive strips to the tray, seat the new battery into position, and connect the press connector securely.

Power the G Power back on and test the battery replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
