Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before opening it.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the upper-left side of the phone. Push firmly until the tray pops out and remove it.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply a heat gun or iOpener around the outer edges of the back panel for 2 minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the rear panel and press firmly to create a seal. Pull up gently on the ring to form a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap between the rear cover and the frame near the bottom edge.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick carefully along all four edges of the device to cut through the perimeter adhesive tape.

Lift away the back cover
1 minCarefully separate the back cover from the frame and set it aside.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the plastic loudspeaker bracket at the bottom of the phone.

Remove the loudspeaker
1 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the edge of the loudspeaker module and lift it out of the frame.

Disconnect the interconnect cable
1 minPry up the press-fit main ribbon cable connector from the sub-board using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cables
2 minUse fine-tipped tweezers to carefully pry up the white and black antenna connectors from the daughterboard.

Remove the sub-board screw
1 minRemove the single Phillips screw holding the microphone daughterboard to the chassis.

Pry out the microphone sub-board
2 minGently wedge a spudger underneath the daughterboard and lift the faulty microphone assembly out of the phone.

Install the new microphone board
2 minPosition the new daughterboard into the bottom cavity of the frame and press gently until it sits flat.

Reconnect antenna and flex cables
2 minSnap the antenna coaxial connectors and main interconnect ribbon cable firmly back onto the new sub-board.

Reinstall the loudspeaker cover
2 minSet the loudspeaker bracket over the bottom assembly and replace the Phillips screws to hold it in place.

Apply new cover adhesive
3 minClean remaining glue with isopropyl alcohol and apply pre-cut adhesive strips around the perimeter of the frame.

Reseal the back cover
2 minAlign the back cover with the phone body and press firmly along all sides to secure the fresh adhesive seal.
