Step-by-step
- 1
Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off to turn off the phone completely.

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM card tray on the side of the phone and push inward to eject it.

Heat rear panel
2 minApply a heated iOpener or warm heat gun around the perimeter of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick under the seam of the back panel and slide it around all edges to release the clips and glue.

Lift rear cover
2 minGently swing open the back cover, being careful not to yank the delicate fingerprint sensor ribbon cable.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the fingerprint reader flex cable connector straight up from the motherboard.

Unscrew mainboard cover
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic motherboard bracket to the chassis.

Remove motherboard shield
2 minPry up and lift away the plastic motherboard frame to expose the battery and logic board connections.

Disconnect battery flex
1 minUse the edge of a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off its motherboard socket.

Apply adhesive remover
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the edges of the battery to weaken the glue beneath it.

Pry out battery
5 minInsert a flat plastic opening card underneath the battery and gradually lift until it releases from the frame.

Clean battery compartment
2 minWipe away residual adhesive from the frame tray using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply new adhesive
2 minPeel the backing off new double-sided battery adhesive strips and lay them flat into the empty battery tray.

Install replacement battery
2 minSet the new battery into the well and press down firmly to secure it to the adhesive.

Reconnect battery cable
1 minAlign and press down the battery flex cable connector into its socket until it clicks into place.

Reattach motherboard shield
3 minLower the plastic motherboard frame onto the upper board and replace the Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect fingerprint sensor
2 minAttach the fingerprint reader flex cable to its mainboard socket before closing the phone.

Snap rear cover
2 minAlign the back cover over the phone and press firmly along the perimeter until all plastic clips snap into place.
