Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button until the options menu appears. Select Power Off and wait for the screen to turn completely black.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole beside the card slot on the left edge. Push firmly to pop the tray out and remove it.

Heat the rear cover
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer set to low to warm the edges of the back panel for two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive holding the cover.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel. Pull upward gently to create a slight gap along the bottom seam.

Insert opening pick
2 minInsert a plastic prying pick into the small gap created by the suction cup. Take care not to insert it deeper than a few millimeters.

Slice back cover adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the rear panel to slice through the adhesive perimeter. Reapply heat briefly if the adhesive resists.

Remove rear panel
2 minLift the rear cover straight off the chassis once all adhesive is severed. Set the back panel aside in a safe spot.

Unscrew top bracket
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper motherboard shield.

Remove motherboard shield
2 minPry up the edge of the upper plastic cover with a spudger and remove it from the device.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pop the battery flex cable connector straight up off the motherboard. This prevents short circuits during repair.

Unscrew loudspeaker cover
3 minRemove all Phillips screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the lower chassis frame.

Remove loudspeaker assembly
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the loudspeaker housing and lift it away from the lower section of the phone.

Disconnect main flex cable
1 minPry up the interconnect flex cable connector from the top end of the charging port sub-board using a spudger.

Disconnect antenna cable
2 minUse precision tweezers to carefully lift the coaxial antenna cable head straight up off its button connector on the sub-board.

Remove sub-board screw
1 minLocate and remove the single Phillips screw holding the charging port sub-board down to the frame.

Pry up old sub-board
2 minGently insert a spudger under the edges of the sub-board to break any light adhesive, then lift the board out of the phone.

Set replacement sub-board
2 minAlign the new charging port sub-board in the lower housing cavity and press it gently into place.

Secure sub-board screw
1 minReinstall the small Phillips screw to fix the new charging port sub-board firmly against the frame.

Reconnect antenna cable
2 minAlign the coaxial antenna head over its socket on the sub-board and snap it down gently using tweezers.

Reconnect main flex cable
1 minAlign and press down the main interconnect ribbon connector onto the sub-board socket until it clicks.

Reconnect battery
1 minSnap the battery flex cable back onto its motherboard socket.

Reinstall loudspeaker assembly
2 minPosition the loudspeaker module over the lower sub-board region and press it flush into the frame.

Secure loudspeaker screws
3 minReplace and tighten all Phillips screws that secure the bottom loudspeaker housing.

Reinstall top shield
3 minPlace the upper motherboard shield back into position and drive the retaining Phillips screws in tightly.

Apply fresh back adhesive
4 minClean away residual adhesive with isopropyl alcohol, then apply new pre-cut adhesive strips around the perimeter frame.

Seal rear cover
2 minAlign the back cover over the phone and press down firmly around all edges for 30 seconds to lock the adhesive seal.

Reinsert SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until it sits flush.
