Step-by-step

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on the left edge of the device to pop it out. Remove the SIM card tray.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply heat with a heat gun or hair dryer around the rear panel edges for two minutes to soften the factory adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the back panel and gently pull upward to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
1 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created between the rear panel and the outer frame.

Slice through the adhesive
3 minMove the opening pick along all edges of the rear cover to separate the adhesive seal.

Lift the rear panel carefully
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover starting from the left side, taking care not to pull the attached fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Disconnect the fingerprint reader cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the mainboard, then set the back panel aside.

Unscrew the midframe
4 minRemove the seventeen Phillips #000 screws securing the plastic midframe and upper bracket to the phone chassis.

Pry off the midframe
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the perimeter edge of the midframe and carefully snap it off the internal chassis.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry up the battery flex cable connector from the mainboard using a plastic spudger to cut power to the device.

Attach suction cup to screen

Separate screen from frame
2 minPull up on the suction cup handle and slide a plastic opening pick into the seam between the glass screen and frame.

Slice display adhesive
3 minCarefully slide the opening pick around all four sides of the front screen to break the adhesive bond completely.

Remove damaged screen
2 minThread the display flex cable out through the frame slot as you lift the old screen away from the device.

Clean frame adhesive
4 minScrape off residual adhesive and broken glass bits from the inner bezel using a spudger and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new screen adhesive
3 minLay double-sided adhesive strips smoothly along the cleaned inner rim of the phone housing.
