Step-by-step

Power off phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Shut Down to turn off the Moto E6 Plus completely.

Remove the rear cover
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool or fingernail into the notch at the bottom edge and lift off the back cover.

Remove the battery
1 minLift the battery out from the recess at the bottom edge using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew the upper shield
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic motherboard shield to the frame.

Detach the upper shield
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the motherboard shield and gently pry it off.

Disconnect the button flex cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to carefully unclip the volume and power button flex connector from the motherboard.

Warm the volume button adhesive
2 minApply mild heat from a hair dryer or heat gun to the frame near the volume buttons for 10 seconds to soften the glue.

Pry out the volume button flex cable
3 minSlide thin tweezers behind the volume button flex assembly and gently peel it away from the inner frame.

Remove the physical volume button key
2 minPush the volume button key inward from the outside frame to pop it out of its slot if replacing the physical key.

Insert the new volume button key
2 minAlign the replacement physical volume button key into the side housing cutout until properly seated.

Apply adhesive to the new flex cable
1 minPeel off the protective backing from the new volume button flex cable's adhesive strip.

Install the replacement flex cable
3 minPress the new volume flex cable firmly into place against the inside edge of the phone frame.

Connect the button flex to the motherboard
2 minAlign the ribbon connector over the motherboard socket and press down firmly until it clicks into place.

Reinstall the upper motherboard shield
2 minSet the upper plastic shield back over the motherboard, aligning all screw holes.

Secure the upper shield screws
3 minReplace and tighten the Phillips #00 screws to secure the motherboard shield.

Reinsert the battery
1 minAlign the battery contacts with the phone terminal pins and press the battery down into its recess.

Snap the rear cover on
2 minAlign the back cover with the phone frame and press firmly along all edges until all plastic clips snap tight.
