Step-by-step

Turn Off the Phone
1 minPress and hold the power button until the menu appears, then select Power Off.

Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the left side of the phone and push firmly to eject the tray.

Pry Open the Rear Cover
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam between the rear cover and the display frame near the charging port.

Unclip the Rear Cover Perimeter
3 minSlide the opening pick around all four edges to release the plastic clips holding the back cover to the frame.

Lift the Rear Cover Carefully
1 minSlightly lift the rear cover off the phone, being careful not to strain the fingerprint sensor flex cable still attached.

Disconnect the Fingerprint Cable
1 minUse the edge of a spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector straight up off the motherboard.

Remove Motherboard Cover Screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper plastic motherboard cover.

Remove the Motherboard Cover
1 minPry up and remove the plastic cover bracket protecting the top motherboard section.

Disconnect the Battery Cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to snap the battery connector off its socket on the motherboard.

Peel Back Battery Pull Tabs
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the pull-tab edges of the battery adhesive strips at the bottom of the battery.

Pull out Battery Adhesive Strips
4 minSlowly pull the adhesive tabs out horizontally away from the battery, keeping them flat to avoid snapping.

Pry Out the Battery
3 minIf the adhesive tabs broke, apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges and pry gently with a plastic card.

Remove the Battery
1 minLift the original battery out of the housing well and set it aside safely.

Install New Battery Adhesive
2 minApply new double-sided battery adhesive strips into the recessed battery well in the chassis.

Insert the Replacement Battery
1 minPlace the new battery into the housing well and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Connect the New Battery Cable
1 minAlign the press connector over the motherboard socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reattach the Motherboard Cover
3 minPosition the upper motherboard plastic shield and reinstall all Phillips screws.

Connect the Fingerprint Cable
2 minHold the rear cover near the housing and press the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector onto its motherboard socket.

Snap the Rear Cover into Place
2 minAlign the rear cover with the frame and press firmly along all edges until all plastic clips snap tight.

Reinsert the SIM Card Tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot until it sits flush against the frame.
