Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select power off to safely shutdown the device.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the side of the phone and remove the SIM card tray.

Heat the back cover edges
3 minApply mild heat using a heat gun or hair dryer around the back cover edges to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Pry open the back cover edge
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the rear cover and the display frame.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the plastic pick along the outer edge of the phone to release all plastic retaining clips.

Lift the back cover carefully
2 minGently hinge open the back cover, taking care not to tear the connected fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minUse a spudger to pry up and disconnect the fingerprint sensor connector from the motherboard.

Unscrew the lower loudspeaker cover
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower loudspeaker housing.

Remove the damaged loudspeaker housing
2 minPry up the lower speaker assembly from the bottom of the phone chassis using a plastic opening tool.

Clean the speaker contact pads
2 minLightly clean the sub-board contact pads with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab.

Install the new loudspeaker assembly
2 minPosition the new loudspeaker assembly into the lower slot and press down until it sits flush.

Secure the speaker screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the Phillips screws to hold the loudspeaker assembly firmly in place.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minAlign and press the fingerprint reader ribbon cable connector firmly back onto the motherboard socket.

Snap the back cover into place
2 minAlign the back cover over the frame and press around the perimeter until all internal clips click shut.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot until it sits flush with the frame.
