   Power down device

   Press and hold the power button, then select Shut Down to turn off your Moto E40 completely before beginning.

   Eject SIM tray

   Insert the SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left side of the phone and push inward to release the tray.

   Unclip back panel

   Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam near the SIM slot gap and slide it around the perimeter to undo the plastic clips.

   Remove back panel

   Lift the rear cover away from the chassis once all plastic clips are fully disengaged.

   Unscrew upper bracket

   Remove the Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic motherboard protective bracket.

   Use tweezers to lift the upper bracket away from the top of the phone frame.

   Pry up the battery connector from its motherboard terminal using a plastic spudger to prevent short circuits.

   Unscrew lower speaker assembly

   Remove the Phillips #00 screws holding down the bottom loudspeaker module.

   Remove loudspeaker module

   Insert a spudger beneath the loudspeaker housing and pop it out of the lower chassis.

    Disconnect display ribbon cable

    Locate the main display flex connector on the motherboard and gently disconnect it with your spudger.

    Disconnect sub-board interconnect flex

    Unplug the interconnect flex cable to ensure clear access to the screen assembly pathways.

    Remove battery

    Pull the adhesive release tab upward carefully or apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges to free and remove the battery.

    Heat screen glass

    Apply continuous warm air around the outer edges of the display glass for 2 minutes using a heat gun.

    Separate screen glass

    Place a suction cup on the lower glass, pull upward to create a gap, and insert an opening pick along the edges to cut through adhesive.

    Remove broken display assembly

    Thread the display flex cable back through the frame cutout as you lift the old screen clear.

    Clean frame perimeter

    Scrape remaining adhesive and broken glass shards off the inner frame lip using a spudger and alcohol wipe.

    Apply frame adhesive

    Apply thin strips of double-sided adhesive along the entire recessed border of the display frame.

    Install new screen panel

    Feed the new display flex cable through the frame opening and firmly seat the glass panel into the frame.

    Reconnect display and battery cables

    Snap the display flex connector back onto the motherboard socket, followed by the battery connector.

    Reinstall protective brackets

    Position the top motherboard cover and bottom speaker module, then replace and tighten all Phillips screws.

    Snap back cover into place

    Align the rear cover with the phone body and press firmly along all edges until every clip snaps securely.

    Reinsert SIM tray

    Slide the SIM card tray back into the phone slot until it sits flush against the edge.
