Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left edge and remove the SIM card tray.

Heat the back cover edges
2 minApply mild heat around the perimeter of the back cover using a heat gun for 1 to 2 minutes to soften internal adhesive clips.

Separate the back cover
4 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam near the SIM slot gap and slide along the edges to release the plastic clips.

Remove the back cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear panel away from the main phone frame.

Unscrew the upper shield
3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws securing the protective motherboard plastic cover.

Remove the upper shield
2 minUse a spudger to gently pry up and remove the plastic upper cover from the phone frame.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to cut power.

Disconnect the volume flex connector
2 minLocate the volume button flex cable press connector on the motherboard and disconnect it using a spudger.

Peel off the volume flex ribbon
3 minUse fine tweezers to carefully peel the adhesive-backed volume button ribbon off the inner side of the frame.

Install the new volume flex ribbon
3 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable inside the side frame recess and press it down firmly to adhere.

Reconnect the volume flex connector
1 minAlign and press the volume button flex connector onto its motherboard socket until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery flex cable connector back into its socket on the motherboard.

Reinstall the upper shield
3 minPosition the plastic upper cover over the motherboard and tighten all Phillips #000 screws securely.

Snap the back cover closed
2 minAlign the back cover onto the phone frame and press firmly around all edges until all plastic clips snap tight.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until flush.
