Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the phone is completely powered down before beginning.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left side of the frame. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Warm the back cover adhesive
2 minUse a heat gun on low power to warm the outer edges of the rear panel for two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive holding the cover.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel. Pull gently upward to create a slight gap near the bottom frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the small gap created between the plastic rear cover and the frame.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back cover to release the adhesive. Work carefully around the corners to avoid warping the plastic.

Remove the rear cover
1 minGently lift the rear cover straight off the frame. Set the panel aside on a clean surface.

Unscrew the upper motherboard cover
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the top protective shield over the main board.

Remove the motherboard shield
1 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the plastic motherboard shield and lift it off the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pop the battery flex connector straight up off the motherboard.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
2 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws holding down the lower speaker enclosure and sub-board shield.

Lift out the speaker module
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the speaker assembly and gently pry it out of the phone body.

Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minPry up the lower press connector of the main interconnect flex cable from the charging port sub-board.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the small round coaxial antenna connector straight up off the sub-board.

Remove the sub-board
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the edge of the charging port sub-board and pry it out of the lower chassis.

Apply flux to the charging port pins
1 minApply a small amount of soldering flux across the mounting legs and electrical pins of the damaged USB-C port.

Desolder the damaged USB-C port
5 minApply heat with a soldering iron and desoldering braid to absorb solder from all mounting posts and pins, then lift the old port away.

Clean the board pads
2 minClean remaining solder off the circuit pads using desoldering wick and a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Solder the new USB-C port
6 minPosition the replacement USB-C port onto the sub-board pads and solder the structural legs and signal pins into place.

Reinstall the charging port sub-board
2 minPlace the repaired sub-board back into its recess at the bottom of the frame and press gently until aligned.

Reconnect the flex and antenna cables
2 minSnap the main interconnect cable connector onto the sub-board and press the coaxial antenna cable onto its terminal.

Reconnect the battery
1 minAlign the battery press connector over its socket on the motherboard and press down until it clicks securely.

Reinstall the protective shields
4 minPlace the upper motherboard shield and lower speaker module back onto the frame, then reinstall all Phillips #000 screws.

Reattach the rear panel
3 minApply fresh double-sided adhesive along the perimeter frame, press the rear panel into place, and reinsert the SIM card tray.
