Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the SIM card tray.

Insert plastic prying tool
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening tool into the seam between the rear cover and the display frame near the SIM card slot.

Unclip the rear cover
4 minSlide the prying tool around the entire perimeter of the phone to release all plastic clips securing the rear case.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover and use a spudger to pop the fingerprint sensor cable off the motherboard.

Unscrew top motherboard cover
3 minRemove all Phillips #000 screws holding down the plastic motherboard protective bracket.

Remove motherboard cover

3 minGently slide a spudger under the volume flex cable adhesive strip and lift it out of the side frame cavity.

Remove volume button key
2 minUse precision tweezers to press the metal retaining bracket inward and pull the physical volume key out of the exterior slot.

Insert new volume key
2 minPush the replacement volume button key into the side frame cutout from the inside until it sits flush.

Position new volume flex cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume flex cable against the inner side frame and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Reconnect battery press connector
1 minAlign the battery flex connector over its socket on the motherboard and press down until it clicks into place.

Reattach motherboard cover
3 minPlace the top protective bracket back onto the motherboard and tighten the Phillips #000 screws to secure it.

Attach fingerprint sensor cable
2 minHold the rear cover close to the frame and snap the fingerprint sensor flex cable back onto the motherboard socket.

Snap rear cover into place
2 minAlign the rear cover with the frame and press around the edges until every plastic clip snaps closed.

Reinsert SIM card tray
1 minPush the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the device until flush.
