Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the side of the phone. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it completely.

Heat the rear cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the perimeter of the back panel for two minutes. This softens the adhesive sealing the cover.

Slice the rear adhesive
4 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back panel and pull gently to open a small gap. Insert an opening pick and slide it around all edges to cut the adhesive.

Remove the rear cover
2 minLift the rear cover away from the chassis carefully. Set the panel aside on a clean surface.

Unscrew the midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove all visible screws securing the upper plastic midframe cover.

Pry off the midframe
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the edge of the midframe cover. Gently pry upward around the perimeter to release the plastic clips and remove it.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the press-fit battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cables
2 minUnplug the display flex cable and main sub-board interconnect cable from the logic board using your spudger.

Remove the camera modules
3 minDisconnect the front and rear camera flex cables. Lift each camera module out with ESD-safe tweezers and set them aside.

Unscrew the logic board
2 minRemove the single Phillips retaining screw holding the logic board to the internal frame assembly.

Lift out the logic board
2 minInsert a spudger gently beneath the bottom edge of the logic board. Slowly lift the board out of the phone body.

Reflow damaged solder joints
10 minApply rosin flux to the damaged solder points or micro-components on the board. Touch up the joints using a fine-tip soldering iron and clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.

Reinstall the logic board
3 minPosition the repaired logic board back into the frame recess. Fasten it down using the single Phillips screw.
