Step-by-step

Eject SIM Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the tray. Press firmly to pop the tray out and remove it from the phone.

Power Off Phone
1 minPress and hold the Power button until the menu pops up. Tap Power Off and wait for the screen to go completely dark.

Heat Rear Cover Edges
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the outer edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minSlice a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the back cover and outer frame near the SIM slot.

Unclip Back Cover
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the device to release the plastic retaining clips.

Disconnect Fingerprint Sensor
2 minSlightly tilt the back cover and use a plastic spudger to unsnap the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the board.

Remove Back Cover
1 minLift the rear cover away from the phone body completely and place it aside.

Unscrew Motherboard Shield
3 minUse a Phillips PH00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plastic upper motherboard shield in place.

2 minPry up the plastic motherboard shield with a spudger and set it off to the side.

Disconnect Battery Connector
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

Unscrew Loudspeaker Module
2 minRemove the Phillips PH00 screws securing the lower loudspeaker bracket at the bottom of the phone.

Remove Loudspeaker Module
2 minLift the loudspeaker housing out of the lower chassis to clear space around the battery base.

Apply Isopropyl Alcohol
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the side edges of the battery to weaken the glue.

Pry Out Battery
4 minSlide a plastic opening card beneath the bottom edge of the battery and lift slowly until it releases from the frame.

Clean Recessed Bay
3 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the battery compartment using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply New Adhesive
2 minPress new double-sided adhesive strips into the bottom of the battery bay and peel off the protective backing.

Install Replacement Battery
2 minAlign the new battery into the compartment, press down firmly, and reconnect its flex cable to the motherboard.
