Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray and press firmly until it pops out.

Warm the back cover
2 minApply heat from a heat gun around the outer edges of the back cover for two minutes.

Insert an opening pick
2 minAttach a suction cup to the bottom rear and insert a plastic pick into the gap created when pulling up.

Unclip the back cover
3 minSlide the pick around all perimeter edges to release the plastic retention clips and adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the back cover off the chassis and set it aside.

Unscrew the upper motherboard cover
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all small screws securing the top plastic bracket.

Detach the motherboard bracket
1 minInsert a plastic spudger underneath the edge of the upper bracket and lift it away.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket with a spudger.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
2 minRemove the Phillips screws holding down the bottom loudspeaker bracket.

Remove the loudspeaker module
1 minPry the plastic loudspeaker unit up and remove it from the lower frame.

Disconnect the main interconnect flex cable
2 minPry up both ends of the main display and daughterboard flex cable using a spudger, then remove it.

Apply isopropyl alcohol to the adhesive
2 minApply a few drops of 99% isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges to dissolve the underlying glue.

Pry out the battery
3 minSlide a flat plastic card under the side of the battery and slowly lever it up out of the recessed well.

Clean old adhesive residue
2 minWipe the interior battery frame with isopropyl alcohol to remove old stickiness.

Apply replacement battery adhesive
2 minStick fresh adhesive strips into the frame well and peel away the protective film.

Place the new battery
1 minAlign the new battery with the frame cutout and press down firmly to secure it.

Reconnect ribbon cables and battery
2 minReattach the main interconnect cable and press the battery connector onto its motherboard socket.

Reinstall plastic covers and screws
3 minSet the loudspeaker module and motherboard cover in place, then tighten all Phillips screws.

Snap the back cover into place
2 minAlign the back cover over the phone and press around the edges until every plastic tab clicks shut.
