Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select 'Power off' on the screen. Ensure the device is completely off before proceeding.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or small paperclip into the pinhole on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly to pop out the SIM tray and remove it.

Warm the back cover perimeter
2 minApply gentle heat from a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer edges of the rear cover for 1 to 2 minutes to soften the internal clips and adhesive.

Unclip the rear cover
3 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam between the plastic rear cover and the display assembly. Slide the tool along the edges to release the plastic retaining clips.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover to access the flex cable underneath. Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the fingerprint reader connector off the motherboard.

Remove the rear cover
1 minLift the rear cover away from the phone chassis and set it aside on your clean workspace mat.

Unscrew the speaker housing
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower speaker enclosure at the bottom of the phone.

Pry up the speaker module
2 minInsert the tip of a spudger under the notch on the speaker module assembly. Pry upward gently to detach it from the phone frame.

Clean the spring contact pads
2 minLightly dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol and clean the gold contact pads on the daughterboard where the speaker contacts connect.

Position the new speaker assembly
2 minAlign the replacement loudspeaker module with the lower housing recess and press down evenly until it sits flat.

Reinstall the speaker housing screws
2 minReplace and tighten the Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom speaker cover into the chassis.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minHold the rear cover near the top of the phone and press the fingerprint sensor flex connector directly onto its motherboard socket until it clicks.

Snap the rear cover closed
2 minAlign the rear cover over the phone and press firmly along all outer edges until all perimeter clips snap back into position.

Reinsert the SIM card tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot until it fits flush against the side of the phone body.
