Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right edge, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the small hole on the right edge to release the SIM tray, then remove it.

Heat the rear glass
2 minApply heat to the outer edges of the back cover using a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat for about two minutes.

Attach the suction cup
2 minPress a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and pull upward to create a slight gap between the glass and frame.

Slice the rear panel adhesive
3 minInsert a plastic prying pick into the gap and slide it along all four edges to slice through the factory adhesive.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minSlightly tilt the rear glass up and use a spudger to detach the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the motherboard before lifting the glass off.

Unscrew the midframe cover
4 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the 14 screws holding down the wireless charging coil and upper midframe shield.

Remove the wireless charging assembly
2 minInsert a spudger under the top edge of the wireless charging assembly and gently pry up to release it from the frame.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to disable power.

Disconnect the volume key flex cable
2 minLocate the volume button ribbon cable on the upper left side of the motherboard and unclip its connector using a spudger.

Remove the damaged volume button assembly
3 minUse tweezers to carefully peel the volume flex ribbon from the interior frame slot and extract the physical key membrane.

Install the new volume button assembly
3 minPlace the replacement volume button flex cable into the frame cutout, pressing down gently so its adhesive sticks securely.

Reconnect the volume flex connector
1 minAlign the press-fit volume ribbon connector over its socket on the motherboard and press down until it snaps in.

Reconnect the battery
1 minPress the battery flex connector straight down into its motherboard terminal until it clicks.

Reinstall the midframe assembly
4 minLower the wireless charging midframe onto the motherboard and tighten the 14 Phillips screws to secure it.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor and seal glass
3 minAttach the fingerprint sensor flex cable, apply new adhesive tape along the outer rim, and firmly press the back glass into place.
