Step-by-step

Press the back door release button
1 minLocate the small mechanical release button on the lower right side of the LG V20. Press it firmly until the metal back cover pops loose.

Remove the metal back cover
1 minGrasp the loosened back cover and lift it straight away from the phone body. Set it aside in a safe location.

Extract the battery
1 minUse your fingernail or a plastic spudger to lift the battery out from the recess near the bottom edge. Store the battery flat and away from conductive materials.

Remove the SIM and microSD cards
1 minSlide out any installed SIM card or microSD card from the stacked card slot located above the battery compartment.

Unscrew the top and bottom chin guards
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four corner screws holding the plastic top and bottom lip guards.

Pry off the end guards
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick beneath the top and bottom corner guards to unhook their internal plastic clips. Slide both guards off the chassis.

Unscrew the midframe fasteners
4 minRemove the 16 remaining Phillips #000 screws securing the midframe to the main body. Keep track of all identical screws using a organizer tray.

Separate the rear midframe
3 minInsert a spudger along the seam between the display assembly and the plastic midframe. Pry around the perimeter until all clips disengage, then lift off the midframe.

Pry out the loudspeaker module
2 minLocate the loudspeaker unit housed in the bottom section of the chassis. Use tweezers or a spudger to gently lever the speaker module out of its recessed pocket.

Clean the contact spring pads
1 minLightly dampen a cotton swab with 99% isopropyl alcohol and wipe the gold contact pins on the motherboard. Ensure no dust or adhesive residue remains.

Install the new loudspeaker
2 minAlign the replacement LG V20 loudspeaker module with its cutout in the lower housing. Press down gently until it sits completely flush.

Align and seat the midframe
2 minPlace the rear midframe over the body of the phone. Press along the outer edges until you hear the plastic clips snap firmly into place.

Secure the midframe screws
4 minReinstall the 16 Phillips #000 screws evenly across the midframe. Do not overtighten to avoid stripping the plastic threads.

Reattach the top and bottom guards
2 minSlide the top and bottom end guards back onto the phone frame until they click into position. Secure them using the four corner screws.

Reinsert cards and battery
1 minSlide your SIM and microSD cards back into their slot. Align the metal contacts of the battery with the motherboard terminals and press it into place.

Snap on the back cover
1 minPosition the top lip of the metal back cover into the top edge of the device. Press down firmly along the sides and bottom until the cover latches closed.
After your LG V20 speaker repair
Power the V20 back on and test the speaker repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this LG V20 job before assuming the part is defective.
