Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the back of the phone, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Remove the back cover
1 minPress the back cover release button on the lower-right side of the phone and lift the metal rear cover off.

Remove the battery
1 minInsert a fingernail into the notch at the bottom edge of the battery and lift it out of the recess.

Remove SIM and microSD cards
1 minSlide out any installed SIM card and microSD card from the dual slot located above the battery compartment.

Unscrew the end guard screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the top and bottom plastic lip guards.

Detach the top and bottom guards
2 minPry up the plastic end caps from the phone body using a plastic opening tool to unclip them.

Remove the midframe screws
4 minRemove the 16 Phillips #000 screws securing the main midframe to the display assembly frame.

Unclip the midframe housing
3 minInsert a plastic spudger between the outer bezel and the midframe, working around the perimeter to release the plastic snaps.

Disconnect the display flex cable
1 minPry up the press-fit display ribbon connector from the main logic board using a spudger.

Disconnect the front camera
1 minCarefully pop the front-facing camera flex cable off its connector on the motherboard.

Disconnect the secondary display flex
1 minPry up the small press-fit ribbon cable for the top ticker display near the top of the motherboard.

Remove the motherboard assembly
2 minGently lift the main motherboard up from the top edge and swing it out of the front frame.

Remove the headphone jack module
2 minUse tweezers to pry the modular 3.5mm headphone jack out of its seating at the bottom frame.

Remove the earpiece speaker
2 minCarefully insert tweezers under the earpiece speaker at the top edge to lift it off the frame adhesive.

Heat the screen perimeter
3 minApply heat around the edges of the front glass display with a heat gun set to low for approximately two minutes.

Slice the screen adhesive
5 minPress a suction cup onto the glass, insert an opening pick along the edge, and slide around the perimeter to cut the glue.

Separate the damaged screen
2 minLift the broken display off the front frame, carefully guiding the display flex cable through the frame slot.

Clean old adhesive residue
3 minApply isopropyl alcohol to a cloth and scrape away any leftover adhesive remnants on the inner frame ledge.

Apply double-sided adhesive tape
3 minPlace narrow pre-cut display adhesive strips around the rim of the clean front chassis frame.

Install the new display screen
3 minFeed the new screen flex cable through the slot and press the display assembly firmly into the frame.
After your LG V20 screen replacement
Power the V20 back on and test the screen replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
