Safety

Step-by-step
- 1
Press the rear cover release button
1 minLocate the small mechanical release button on the lower-right edge of the phone. Press it to pop open the rear cover lock.

Remove the rear aluminum cover
1 minLift the metal back panel away from the phone body and set it aside.

Remove the battery
1 minPry up from the recess notch at the bottom of the battery bay and lift the battery out.

Unscrew the top plastic chin
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the top plastic lip.

Detach the top chin guard
1 minSlide a plastic spudger under the top plastic cap and unclip it from the frame.

Unscrew the bottom plastic chin
2 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws holding the lower plastic guard piece.

Detach the bottom chin guard
1 minGently unclip and pull the lower plastic cap away from the chassis.

Unscrew the midframe housing
3 minRemove all remaining visible Phillips #00 screws securing the inner plastic midframe assembly.

Pry off the midframe panel
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool along the inner border and snap the midframe away from the main body.

Disconnect the daughterboard flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the lower microphone/daughterboard ribbon connector straight up.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cables
2 minCarefully pry up the antenna cable heads from their sockets on the lower daughterboard using fine tweezers.

Remove the defective microphone board
2 minPry under the lower daughterboard containing the primary microphone and lift it out of the recess.

Position the new microphone board
2 minSet the replacement daughterboard into the bottom chassis housing, ensuring alignment pins match up.

Reconnect the antenna wires
2 minSnap the coaxial antenna connectors securely onto their corresponding terminals on the new board.

Connect the daughterboard flex ribbon
1 minAlign the press connector over its socket and press firmly until it clicks into place.

Reattach the plastic midframe
3 minPress the midframe housing back onto the phone until clip clips engage, then reinstall all saved midframe screws.

Reinstall top and bottom chins
2 minSnap both end caps onto the phone frame and fasten their respective Phillips screws.

Reinsert the battery and back cover
1 minAlign the battery contacts and seat the battery, then snap the rear metal cover back into place.
