Step-by-step

Press back cover release button
1 minLocate the release button on the lower right edge of the LG V20 and press it firmly to pop open the back panel.

Remove aluminum back cover
1 minLift the aluminum rear cover away from the phone body and set it aside.

Extract removable battery
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the bottom of the battery bay and lift the battery out.

Remove SIM and microSD cards
1 minSlide out any installed SIM card and microSD card from the dual slot reader.

Unscrew top plastic cap
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws securing the top plastic guard cap to the chassis.

Detach top guard cap
1 minInsert a plastic pick under the top plastic cap and gently pop it off the internal frame.

Unscrew bottom plastic cap
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws holding the bottom chin guard assembly in place.

Detach bottom guard cap
1 minPry up the bottom plastic guard cap using an opening pick to disengage its retention clips.

Remove midframe screws
3 minUnscrew all 16 Phillips #00 screws around the perimeter of the rear midframe.

Pry off rear midframe
2 minRun a plastic spudger along the outer seam to separate the midframe from the screen assembly.

Disconnect front camera flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the front camera connector straight up from the motherboard.

Disconnect display flex cable
1 minPry up the main display press connector from its socket on the upper left side of the motherboard.

Disconnect headphone jack connector
1 minDisconnect the headphone jack flex connector located at the bottom section of the main board.

Lift out motherboard
2 minGently lift the motherboard out from the plastic display frame and place it on an anti-static mat.

Apply flux to charging port pins
2 minApply a small drop of soldering flux over the USB-C port anchor pins and rear data pads on the motherboard.

Desolder defective USB-C port
5 minApply hot air from a rework station around the port area and lift the damaged USB-C port off using fine tweezers.

Clean motherboard solder pads
3 minClear residual solder using copper solder wick and clean the contacts with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Solder new USB-C charging port
6 minPosition the new USB-C port on the pads and solder all anchor legs and signal pins securely.

Reseat motherboard into chassis
2 minCarefully place the motherboard back into the front frame housing without pinching any underlying cables.

Reconnect internal flex connectors
2 minPress down the display, front camera, and headphone jack connectors until they snap firmly into position.

Snap midframe onto display assembly
2 minAlign the rear midframe over the phone assembly and press firmly along the edges until all clips snap shut.

Reinstall midframe screws
3 minInsert and tighten the 16 Phillips #00 screws back into the rear midframe.

Attach top and bottom end caps
3 minSnap the top and bottom guard caps back into position and secure them with their four original screws.

Reinstall cards and battery
2 minReinsert your SIM card, microSD card, and battery, then press the aluminum rear cover back into place.
After your LG V20 charging port repair
