Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button on the back of the phone, then tap 'Power off' on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Attach ESD wrist strap
1 minPut on your anti-static wrist strap and clip the ground wire to a grounded metal object to prevent electrostatic discharge.

Press rear cover release button
1 minLocate the small mechanical release button on the lower right edge of the phone frame. Press down firmly on the button to pop up the back cover corner.

Remove rear aluminum cover
1 minGrasp the freed corner of the aluminum back plate and lift it away from the phone body. Set the back cover aside in a safe spot.

Locate battery removal notch
1 minFind the small indentation near the bottom edge of the battery well. This recess provides leverage for lifting the battery.

Insert spudger into notch
1 minInsert the flat end of a plastic spudger or your fingernail directly into the battery removal notch.

Pry battery upward
1 minGently lever the spudger upward to dislodge the battery from its recessed housing.

Remove original battery
1 minLift the old battery completely out of the phone frame. Place it on your work mat away from metallic objects.

Inspect battery contact pins
1 minExamine the four spring-loaded gold contact pins in the upper corner of the battery compartment. Ensure none are bent, recessed, or damaged.

Clean gold contact terminals
2 minLightly moisten a cotton swab with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the gold contact pins to remove any dust or oils.

Inspect new battery
1 minCheck your replacement battery for any signs of swelling, denting, or missing insulation wraps before installation.

Align battery contacts
1 minOrient the replacement battery so its four gold pads match the position of the contact pins in the battery housing.

Press new battery into bay
1 minLower the contact side of the battery in first, then push the bottom end down into the bay until it rests flat.

Align rear cover tabs
1 minPlace the top edge of the aluminum rear cover against the top of the phone frame, aligning the retention tabs.

Snap rear cover into place
1 minPress firmly along the sides and bottom of the back cover until all clips engage and lock the release button.

Connect charger
2 minPlug the phone into its original USB-C charger and allow it to charge uninterrupted to 100% to calibrate the new battery controller.
After your LG V20 battery replacement
Power the V20 back on and test the battery replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this LG V20 job before assuming the part is defective.
