Eject SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the card slot on the side. Remove the tray completely.
- 3
Apply heat to rear cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the edges of the back cover for 2 minutes. This softens the internal waterproof adhesive.
- 4
Separate rear cover
3 minPlace a suction cup on the rear glass near the bottom edge and pull upward to create a gap. Insert an opening pick and slide it around the perimeter to slice through the adhesive.

Unscrew midframe shield
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the internal plastic midframe. Store the screws in an organized holder.
- 6
Detach inner midframe shield
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the edge of the midframe shield. Gently pry upward to release the plastic clips holding it to the chassis.
- 7
Disconnect battery flex connector
1 minLocate the battery connector on the main board. Pry it straight up with a plastic spudger to cut power to the device.
- 8
Disconnect volume ribbon cable
1 minLocate the volume button press connector on the upper motherboard edge. Pry the connector up from its socket using a spudger.
- 9
Peel volume button flex ribbon
2 minCarefully slide flat tweezers under the volume button flex cable. Gently pull the adhesive-backed ribbon away from the internal side wall.
- 10
Remove physical volume buttons
1 minUse tweezers to push the physical volume keys inward from the outer housing cutout. Remove the button covers from inside the frame.
- 11
Install replacement volume buttons
1 minPosition the new volume key buttons into the side housing slots. Make sure the rubber gaskets fit snugly into place.
- 12
Adhere replacement volume flex cable
2 minPeel the protective film off the new volume button flex ribbon adhesive. Press the ribbon firmly into the frame channel behind the volume keys.
- 13
Reconnect volume ribbon cable
1 minAlign the press connector over its motherboard socket. Press down gently until you feel a soft snap.
- 14
Reconnect battery flex cable
1 minPress the battery connector back into its motherboard socket until securely seated.
- 15
Reattach midframe shield
2 minAlign the midframe over the body and snap the perimeter clips back into place. Reinstall and tighten all Phillips #00 screws.
- 16
Reseal rear cover
3 minClean remaining old adhesive off the frame with isopropyl alcohol. Apply fresh adhesive strips and press the rear cover firmly down for 30 seconds.
