Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the phone is completely shut down before continuing.

Heat the rear glass
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass panel and press down firmly to secure a grip.

Lift the rear glass
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the glass cover and the phone frame.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created at the bottom edge.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the rear glass to cut through the factory adhesive layer.

Remove the rear cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear glass off the device chassis and set it on a clean surface.

Unscrew the midframe
4 minRemove the 15 Phillips #00 screws securing the upper wireless charging pad and lower speaker module.

Remove the wireless charging coil
2 minGently pry up and remove the upper midframe shield containing the wireless charging and NFC coil.

Remove the loudspeaker assembly
2 minUse a plastic spudger to lever the lower loudspeaker module up and out of the housing.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect the main interconnect cable
1 minPop off the main interboard flex cable connector covering the lower section of the battery.

Apply adhesive remover
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and bottom edges of the battery well.

Wait for adhesive to soften
2 minAllow the isopropyl alcohol to soak for two minutes to weaken the strong battery tape underneath.

Pry up the battery
3 minInsert a flat plastic opening card beneath the side of the battery and slowly lever it upward.

Remove the old battery
1 minLift the depleted battery out of the frame, taking care not to bend or puncture the pouch.

Clean the battery compartment
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the recessed battery frame using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minLay pre-cut double-sided adhesive strips into the battery well and peel away the protective film.

Install the new battery
2 minPosition the replacement battery into the frame, press down firmly to adhere, and reconnect its flex cable.

Reinstall internal components
5 minReconnect the main ribbon cable, reseat the lower speaker and upper wireless charging module, then tighten the 15 Phillips screws.
