Step-by-step

Pry off back cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the bottom edge of the phone. Pry gently upward to release the clips and remove the back cover.

Remove battery
1 minUse your fingernail or a spudger in the recess at the bottom of the battery compartment. Lift the battery out of the frame.

Remove SIM card
1 minPress down slightly on the SIM card and slide it backward out of its slot located above the battery compartment.

Unscrew midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the eleven 4.0 mm screws securing the plastic rear midframe.

Unclip midframe housing
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool between the display assembly and the outer edge of the midframe. Pry around the perimeter to release the plastic clips.

Detach midframe assembly
1 minLift the rear midframe off the chassis to gain access to the back control button area mounted inside it.

Remove button bracket screws
2 minLocate the metal volume/power key bracket on the inside of the midframe. Remove the two small Phillips #00 screws holding the bracket down.

Remove button bracket
1 minGrasp the metal bracket with tweezers and lift it straight up off the midframe housing.

Remove old volume flex cable
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the old volume button flex assembly and rubber key pads out of their midframe slot.

Insert new volume flex cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable into the midframe slot, pressing the button pads flat into their cutouts.

Position button bracket
1 minPlace the metal button bracket back over the new volume button flex assembly, aligning its screw holes with the midframe posts.

Fasten button bracket screws
2 minReinstall the two small Phillips #00 screws to secure the metal button bracket in place.

Snap midframe onto frame
2 minAlign the midframe over the front display chassis and press down firmly around the edges until all clips snap shut.

Secure midframe screws
3 minReinstall the eleven Phillips #00 screws around the perimeter of the midframe to lock it to the phone.

Reinstall battery
1 minAlign the gold contacts of the battery with the terminals in the well and press the battery flat into place.

Snap back cover on
1 minAlign the back cover over the rear of the phone and press around all edges until it clicks tightly closed.
After your LG G4 volume button repair
Power the G4 back on and test the volume button repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this LG G4 job before assuming the part is defective.
