Safety
- Always disconnect and remove the battery before working on internal electronics.
- Wear heat-resistant safety gloves and safety glasses when operating the heat gun.
- Perform soldering and heating in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling flux fumes.

Step-by-step

Power Off the Phone
1 minPress and hold the power button on the back of the device, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Remove the Rear Cover
1 minInsert a plastic prying tool or fingernail into the bottom corner notch and pry the back cover off.

Remove the Battery
1 minLift the battery out of its bay using the cutout notch located at the bottom of the compartment.

Remove the MicroSD and SIM Cards
1 minUse your thumb to slide the microSD card and SIM card out of their stacked slot above the battery housing.

Unscrew the Midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the eleven identical screws securing the rear midframe to the display assembly.

Pry Up the Midframe
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool between the midframe and the front bezel near the bottom, then pry gently along the perimeter to release the clips.

Disconnect the Front Camera
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the front-facing camera press connector up off the top left of the motherboard.

Disconnect the Display Connector
1 minPry the display flex cable press connector straight up from its socket near the top right of the motherboard.

Lift Out the Motherboard
2 minCarefully pry up the top edge of the motherboard and lift it completely out of the phone body.

Remove the Microphone Rubber Cover
1 minUse fine-tip tweezers to gently pull the small black rubber acoustic boot off the primary bottom microphone.

Heat the Microphone Solder Joints
3 minSet the heat gun to 300°C and apply indirect heat to the underside of the motherboard directly beneath the microphone.

Remove the Faulty Microphone
1 minGrasp the metal microphone housing with tweezers and lift it off the board once the solder melts completely.

Clean and Flux the Solder Pads
2 minApply a small drop of solder flux onto the exposed microphone solder pads on the motherboard.

Solder the Replacement Microphone
4 minPosition the new microphone onto the fluxed pads and apply low heat until the component settles into melted solder.

Reinstall the Microphone Rubber Cover
1 minPush the black rubber acoustic boot back onto the newly installed microphone until it sits flush.
After your LG G4 microphone repair
Power the G4 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this LG G4 job before assuming the part is defective.
