Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the rear, then select Power Off on the screen.

Remove back cover
1 minPry open the back cover using the fingernail notch located at the bottom corner of the device.

Remove battery
1 minLift the battery out from the recess at the bottom edge of the battery compartment.

Remove SIM card
1 minPush the SIM card slightly inward to disengage the lock, then slide it out from the lower slot.

Remove microSD card
1 minSlide the microSD card straight out from the upper slot positioned above the SIM tray.

Unscrew rear frame
3 minRemove the eleven Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic rear frame assembly to the housing.

Pry rear frame
2 minInsert a plastic spudger between the display bezel and rear frame to release the retaining clips.

Lift off rear frame
1 minSeparate and remove the rear midframe housing from the phone body.

Disconnect display cable
2 minUse a plastic opening tool to gently pop the display press connector off the motherboard.

Disconnect front camera
2 minPry up the front-facing camera flex connector from its motherboard socket.

Disconnect rear camera
2 minPry up the rear camera flex connector to detach it from the top section of the motherboard.

Remove motherboard
2 minGently pry up the top edge of the motherboard and lift it completely out of the phone body.

Apply flux to port
2 minApply a small amount of liquid rosin flux over the micro-USB port solder pins on the motherboard.

Heat port pins
4 minApply a hot air station set to 350°C evenly over the anchor pads and connector pins.

Remove damaged port
2 minGently lift the old micro-USB port off the motherboard using tweezers once solder liquefies.

Clean contact pads
3 minUse solder wick and a soldering iron to clean residual solder, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol.

Position new port
2 minAlign the structural anchor pins of the new micro-USB port into the mounting holes on the motherboard.

Solder anchor pins
3 minSolder the four corner support legs of the USB port to mechanically secure it to the board.

Solder data pins
4 minApply fine solder wire to each individual rear pin using a fine-tip soldering iron.

Inspect solder joints
2 minCheck all solder joints under magnification to ensure no bridges or cold joints exist.

Reinstall motherboard
2 minPlace the motherboard back into the frame chassis, seating the bottom edge first.

Reconnect camera connectors
2 minPress the front and rear camera connectors firmly down into their respective motherboard sockets.

Reconnect display cable
1 minPress the display flex cable connector straight down until it snaps into position.

Reattach rear frame
2 minAlign the rear midframe over the chassis and press firmly along the perimeter to engage clips.

Fasten frame screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the eleven Phillips #00 screws securing the rear midframe.

Reinsert battery and cover
2 minReinsert SIM and microSD cards, place the battery into its bay, and snap on the back cover.
