Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the phone is completely shutdown before proceeding.

Heat the outer screen edges
2 minApply heat using a heat gun on low power along the edges of the outer display for 2 minutes. This softens the perimeter adhesive holding the glass.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the outer screen assembly. Press down firmly to create a tight seal against the glass.

Create an opening gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup handle to create a tiny gap between the glass and the frame. Insert a plastic opening pick into the gap.

Slice the lower adhesive seal
2 minSlide the opening pick horizontally across the bottom edge of the display. This cuts through the lower adhesive strip.

Slice the left edge adhesive
2 minWork the pick around the bottom-left corner and slide it up the left edge. Leave a pick in place to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Reheat the upper perimeter
1 minApply heat to the top edge of the outer screen for 1 minute. Softening the top adhesive prevents glass cracking around the speaker grille.

Slice the top adhesive seal
2 minCarefully guide the opening pick across the top edge near the earpiece. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging underlying sensor cables.

Slice the right edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick down the remaining right edge of the screen assembly. Verify all four edges are separated from the metal chassis.

Prop open the outer display
1 minGently lift the right side of the outer display to open it like a book cover. Rest the screen panel flat alongside the main frame.

Remove the cable bracket screw
1 minLocate the metal bracket covering the screen flex connector. Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the single retaining screw.

Remove the connector metal bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal connector bracket off the motherboard. Store the bracket and screw safely in an organizer tray.

Disconnect the screen ribbon cable
1 minInsert the flat end of a spudger beneath the screen flex connector. Pry straight up to disconnect it from the motherboard socket.
