Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or straightened paperclip into the hole at the bottom edge of the phone to pop out the SIM tray. Remove the tray completely.
- 2
Heat the rear glass panel
2 minApply a heated iOpener or low-temp heat gun to the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
- 3
Slice the rear panel adhesive
5 minAttach a suction handle near the bottom edge and lift gently to create a gap. Insert an opening pick and slide it around all edges to cut the perimeter adhesive.
- 4
Remove the back glass cover
2 minGently lift the back glass cover straight up off the chassis and store it in a safe place.
- 5
Unscrew the upper motherboard shield
3 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove all screws securing the top metal bracket over the logic board.
- 6
Remove the upper metal shield
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal shield off the logic board and set it aside.
- 7
Disconnect the battery flex cables
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry up both battery press connectors to completely remove power from the system board.
- 8
Disconnect camera flex cables
3 minCarefully pop up the press connectors for the main rear camera module and sensor flex cables.
- 9
Disconnect display and sub-board interconnects
3 minUse a plastic spudger to detach the main display ribbon cable and the ribbon connectors linking the sub-board.
- 10
Remove logic board mounting screws
3 minUnscrew the remaining T3 Torx screws holding the logic board to the aluminum chassis frame.
- 11
Extract the main logic board
3 minCarefully tilt and lift the logic board out of the phone, ensuring no lingering cables catch on the board edges.
- 12
Inspect for damage
5 minPlace the board under a magnifying lamp to inspect micro-components for solder bridges, corrosion, or burnt chips.
- 13
Rework damaged components
10 minApply liquid flux and use a fine-tip soldering iron or hot air station to replace or reflow faulty micro-components.
- 14
Clean flux residue
3 minClean the worked areas of the board thoroughly using a soft brush dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol.
- 15
Reinstall the logic board
3 minLower the logic board back into the housing and align its mounting holes with the frame standoffs.
- 16
Reconnect all display and component cables
4 minSnap all display cables, camera ribbons, and interconnect flexes back onto their socket connections.
- 17
Reconnect battery and reattach shields
3 minPress the battery cables into place, position the metal motherboard shield, and tighten all T3 Torx screws.
- 18
Reseal the back glass
4 minApply new precut adhesive strips to the perimeter frame, press the back cover firmly down, and apply even pressure for one minute.
