Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Eject the SIM card tray
2 minInsert a SIM ejector tool or paperclip into the hole next to the SIM tray on the outer frame. Push firmly to pop the tray out and set it aside.
- 2
Heat the rear glass panel
4 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to heat the outer rear glass edges for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.
- 3
Slice rear panel adhesive
6 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear cover and pull gently to create a gap. Insert a plastic opening pick and slide it around the edges to cut the adhesive.
- 4
Lift off rear glass
3 minCarefully separate the rear glass panel from the frame, taking care not to strain any sensor ribbons. Set the panel aside on a clean surface.
- 5
Unscrew upper motherboard shield
4 minUse a precision screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the top motherboard protective plate.
- 6
Detach motherboard shield
2 minGently pry up the metal bracket shield using a plastic spudger and lift it off the assembly.
- 7
Disconnect battery flex cables
3 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop both battery press connectors straight up off the motherboard to eliminate electrical power.
- 8
Unplug logic board connections
5 minDisconnect all remaining flex cables and coaxial antenna connections attached to the main logic board using tweezers or a spudger.
- 9
Remove mainboard screws
4 minUnscrew the internal retaining screws securing the logic board to the phone's aluminum chassis.
- 10
Lift out motherboard
3 minCarefully pry under the edges of the mainboard and lift it free from the body of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
- 11
Pry off IC EMI shield
6 minApply light heat to the metal EMI shield over the security package, then carefully pry it off with tweezers to expose the Titan Security Chip.
- 12
Apply flux to Titan chip
2 minDispense a small amount of liquid flux around the base of the BGA Titan security chip package.
- 13
Desolder the Titan security chip
8 minHeat the chip with a hot air station set to 350°C until the solder ball grid reflows, then lift the IC off with fine tweezers.
- 14
Clean logic board pads
6 minApply fresh flux and run a soldering iron with desoldering braid over the contacts to remove old solder residue.
- 15
Solder replacement Titan chip
10 minAlign the replacement Titan chip over the clean pads and heat evenly with hot air until the component self-aligns and seats into place.
