Step-by-step

Power off the Google Pixel 8a
1 minPress and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Heat the bottom edge of the display
2 minApply a heat gun or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive underneath.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the screen and press down firmly to secure a tight seal.

Create a display gap
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup while pressing down on the frame to create a small gap between the glass and body.

Insert an opening pick
1 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created at the bottom edge of the device.

Slice the bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick slowly back and forth along the bottom edge to cut through the screen adhesive.

Heat the side edges
2 minApply heat to the left and right perimeter of the display for two minutes.

Slice the side adhesive
3 minGuide the opening pick along the left and right sides, taking care not to insert the pick deeper than 3mm.

Heat the top edge
2 minWarm the top edge of the screen with your heat source for about ninety seconds.

Slice the top adhesive
2 minSlide the pick across the top border to break the remaining perimeter adhesive.

Open the display panel
2 minCarefully lift the left edge of the display and pivot it open like a book, taking care not to strain the flex cable attached near the right side.

Unscrew the display bracket
2 minUse a Torx T4 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal display cable shield.

Remove the display bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield off the motherboard and set it aside.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minPry the display flex cable connector straight up from its socket on the motherboard using a plastic spudger.

Separate the old screen
1 minLift the original screen off the phone chassis completely and set it aside.

Clean the frame rim
4 minScrape off residual adhesive using a spudger and clean the bezel edges thoroughly with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new adhesive strips
3 minAlign and press the pre-cut replacement adhesive gasket onto the outer lip of the phone frame, then peel off the protective backing.

Connect the replacement display
2 minAlign the flex cable connector over the motherboard socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reinstall the cable bracket
2 minPosition the metal shield back over the connector and tighten the two Torx T4 screws.

Adhere the new screen
3 minAlign the replacement screen carefully with the phone frame and press firmly along all four edges to seal the adhesive.
