Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left side of the frame and pull out the tray.

Heat the back cover
2 minApply heat to the edges of the back panel for two minutes using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the back cover near the USB-C port.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick into the seam.

Slice the back panel adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back panel to separate the adhesive gasket.

Lift off the back cover
1 minGently lift the back panel off the chassis and set it aside.

Unscrew the lower shield screws
2 minUse a Torx T4 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the speaker housing cover.

Unscrew the upper motherboard shield
3 minRemove the Torx T4 screws holding down the top graphite frame shield.

Remove the graphite midframe shield
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to peel away and lift the graphite heat sheet from the assembly.

Disconnect the battery flex cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Apply isopropyl alcohol around the battery
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery to loosen the adhesive.

Pull the battery adhesive tabs
3 minGrasp the exposed adhesive stretch release tabs and pull them out slowly and horizontally.

Pry out the battery
2 minInsert a flat plastic tool under the edge of the battery and carefully lever it out of the recess.

Clean the battery cavity
2 minWipe away residual adhesive from the battery compartment using a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minAdhere new adhesive strips to the underside of your replacement battery and remove the protective liner.

Install the new battery
2 minSet the battery firmly into the housing and press down evenly across the top surface for ten seconds.

Connect the battery flex cable
1 minAlign the press connector over the motherboard terminal and press firmly until it clicks into place.

Reinstall the graphite midframe shield
2 minLay the graphite midframe plate back over the motherboard and line up the screw holes.

Secure all internal screws
3 minReinstall the Torx T4 screws to secure the top motherboard shield and lower speaker cover.

Apply back cover adhesive
2 minAlign and lay a pre-cut adhesive strip around the perimeter of the phone chassis.

Press the back cover closed
2 minAlign the back cover with the body and press firmly along the perimeter to set the seal.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot until it sits flush against the frame.
