Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole at the bottom left edge of the phone to pop out the SIM tray.

Heat the back panel
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer edges of the rear panel for two minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Slice the rear adhesive
3 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back panel, pull up slightly, and insert an opening pick into the seam to cut through the adhesive.

Remove the back panel
2 minSlide the opening pick around all four edges to fully separate the glue, then carefully lift the plastic back cover off the chassis.

Unscrew the midframe cover
3 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the screws securing the plastic midframe shield to the housing.

Remove the midframe cover
1 minGently lift the plastic midframe cover away from the device frame using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector directly off the motherboard using the flat end of a plastic spudger.

Unscrew the volume button bracket
2 minRemove the small retaining screw holding the metal volume and power button bracket in place using a T3 Torx driver.

Disconnect the button flex cable
1 minUse fine tweezers or a spudger to detach the volume flex cable connector from the logic board.

Remove the volume button flex
2 minGently peel the old volume button flex cable away from the inside edge of the phone frame.

Install the replacement volume button flex
2 minAlign the new volume button flex cable with the cutouts on the interior side frame and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Connect the button flex cable
1 minAlign the press connector over its motherboard socket and press straight down until it clicks into place.

Secure the volume button bracket
2 minPosition the metal retaining bracket over the flex cable and tighten the retaining screw.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery connector with the socket on the motherboard and press down to reconnect power.

Reinstall the midframe cover
3 minPlace the midframe panel back onto the housing and tighten all T3 Torx screws until snug.

Reseal the back panel
3 minApply new pre-cut adhesive strips to the edges of the frame, align the rear cover, and press firmly along the borders to seal.
