Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the Pixel 6a
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.
- 2
Heat the front display glass
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the outer edges of the screen for two minutes. This softens the display adhesive.
- 3
Attach a suction cup near the bottom edge
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the screen, just above the bottom bezel. Press firmly to secure a tight seal.
- 4
Slice through the display adhesive
5 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick. Slide the pick around all four edges to cut the perimeter adhesive.
- 5
Pivot the display open
2 minGently lift the left side of the display assembly like a book cover. Do not pull the screen away entirely as the ribbon cable is still attached.
- 6
Unscrew the display connector bracket
2 minUse a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the metal cable shield over the screen connector. Lift away the metal shield with tweezers.
- 7
Disconnect the display flex cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the display ribbon cable straight up from its socket on the motherboard. Set the display assembly aside.
- 8
Remove the midframe screws
4 minRemove the Torx T3 screws holding the black graphite thermal sheet and inner midframe plate in place. Store screws organized by location.
- 9
Detach the midframe plate
3 minGently peel away the graphite sheet and lift the midframe shield off the phone chassis using a plastic opening tool.
- 10
Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic spudger to cut all electrical power.
- 11
Disconnect the rear camera cables
2 minUse your spudger to carefully unplug both rear camera press connectors from the top section of the logic board.
- 12
Disconnect the antenna coaxial cables
2 minUse fine tweezers to gently lever up the white and black antenna cable heads from their sockets on the edge of the logic board.
- 13
Remove logic board retaining screws
3 minRemove the remaining Torx T3 screws securing the upper motherboard to the phone housing.
- 14
Lift out the logic board
3 minCarefully pry the logic board up from the top edge using a spudger, ensuring no lingering cables catch on the board as you remove it.
