Step-by-step

Heat the front display
3 minApply a heat gun or iOpener along the perimeter of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the bottom half of the screen and pull upward to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin opening pick into the seam between the display glass and the outer frame.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick carefully around all four edges of the screen to cut through the display adhesive.

Open the display assembly
2 minGently swing the display open from the left edge like a book to expose the internal shield.

Unscrew the display cable bracket
3 minUse a Torx T3 driver to remove the screw holding the metal bracket over the display connector.

Disconnect the display flex cable
2 minPry the display cable connector straight up from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove the midframe shield
5 minUnscrew the Torx T3 screws securing the wireless charging coil assembly and lift it out.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket to isolate power to the device.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject pin into the tray hole along the side of the housing and pull out the tray.

Disconnect interconnect cables
4 minUnplug the camera modules and antenna coax cables connected to the logic board using fine tweezers.

Remove motherboard mounting screws
3 minUnbolt the Torx T3 screws holding the logic board down to the inner aluminum chassis.

Lift out the logic board
3 minCarefully pry under the top edge of the board with a spudger and lift it out of the enclosure.

Reflow damaged board components
10 minApply rosin flux to damaged solder joints on the logic board and touch them with a hot soldering iron to restore connections.
