   Power off the Pixel 4 XL

   Press and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before continuing.

   Heat the rear glass cover

   Apply a heat gun set to low heat around the edges of the back cover for about two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive securing the rear panel.

   Attach suction cup to rear cover

   Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass and pull up gently to create a small gap. Insert an opening pick into the seam.

   Slice rear cover adhesive

   Slide the opening pick along the bottom, left, and right edges to cut through the adhesive seal. Be careful not to slide the pick too deep near the top center where flex cables reside.

   Disconnect the rear glass flex cable

   Gently hinge the back cover open from the left side. Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil connector from the motherboard.

   Remove midframe panel screws

   Use a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper midframe shield and motherboard covers. Store the screws in an organized tray.

   Remove the upper midframe shield

   Use tweezers or a spudger to lift and remove the plastic midframe shield covering the motherboard connectors.

   Disconnect the battery cable

   Pry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger. This prevents electrical shorts while working.

   Disconnect the screen flex cable

   Locate the display flex cable near the bottom of the motherboard. Use your spudger to unclip the connector straight up.

    Heat the front display panel

    Warm the front screen perimeter with a heat gun for 2-3 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

    Attach suction cup to display

    Press a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen glass. Pull up firmly to create a gap between the screen and metal chassis.

    Separate screen from frame

    Insert a thin plastic pick into the gap and slide it along all four edges to release the display adhesive. Take care around the top sensor array.

    Thread display flex cable through frame

    Lift the display assembly off the frame while carefully guiding its ribbon cable through the chassis slot. Set the old display aside.

    Clean frame adhesive residue

    Apply a small amount of high-percentage isopropyl alcohol to a microfiber cloth and scrape off all remaining adhesive from the frame ledge.

    Apply new display adhesive strips

    Align and press pre-cut display adhesive strips around the inner perimeter of the metal frame. Peel away the protective backing films.

    Thread and seat the new screen

    Feed the new display flex cable through the frame slot, align the screen with the body, and gently press around the edges to adhere it.

    Reconnect display and battery cables

    Press the display flex cable and battery connector back into their respective motherboard sockets until they click securely into place.

    Reinstall midframe and rear glass

    Reattach the midframe shield with Torx screws, connect the back cover flex cable, apply fresh rear adhesive, and press the back cover firmly shut.
