Step-by-step

Power off the Pixel 3
1 minTurn off your phone completely before starting the repair to avoid electrical shorts.

Heat the rear glass edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer along the back glass perimeter for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup to rear glass
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and pull up firmly to create a small gap.

Slice the rear adhesive
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and slide it along the edges to separate the rear cover.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minGently tilt the back cover up and use a spudger to disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the board.

Remove the T3 Torx screws
3 minUnscrew the nine T3 Torx screws holding down the top motherboard bracket.

Remove the upper bracket
1 minLift the plastic motherboard shield out of the phone using tweezers or a spudger.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minPry up the display flex cable connector located on the motherboard.

Heat the front display panel
2 minWarm the outer edges of the front glass with a heat gun for two minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Slice the front screen adhesive
4 minInsert a thin opening pick along the display seam and cut through the adhesive surrounding the OLED screen.

Thread and remove the old screen
2 minLift the front panel off while carefully guiding its display flex cable out through the midframe slot.

Clean the display frame
3 minScrape remaining adhesive and broken glass fragments from the chassis frame using a spudger and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new display adhesive
3 minLay double-sided adhesive strips along the cleaned internal rim of the midframe.

Install the replacement display
3 minFeed the new display flex cable through the chassis slot and press the screen firmly into the adhesive.

Reconnect the display cable
1 minSnap the display cable connector firmly back onto the motherboard socket.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minPress the battery connector back into place to restore board power.

Reinstall the upper bracket
3 minPosition the motherboard cover back over the top assembly and secure it with nine T3 Torx screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor
2 minAttach the fingerprint flex cable to its motherboard socket before closing the rear glass.

Seal the rear glass panel
3 minApply fresh adhesive to the back frame and press the rear glass firmly back into place.
