Before you begin

Safety
- Wear safety glasses to protect eyes from broken glass particles.
- Do not bend or puncture the lithium-ion battery while working inside the device.
- Disconnect the battery before handling any internal flex cables to prevent short circuits.
Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Heat the rear glass
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the outer edges of the back cover for 2-3 minutes. This softens the internal adhesive holding the glass.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass back cover. Pull upward firmly to create a small gap between the glass and the frame.

Slice back cover adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic prying tool or pick into the gap. Carefully slide it around the perimeter to cut through the perimeter tape.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor flex
2 minGently swing open the back cover from the right edge like a book. Use a spudger to pop the fingerprint sensor ribbon connector off the motherboard.

Set back glass aside
1 minRemove the back glass entirely from the frame. Place it on a clean surface out of the way.

Unscrew wireless charging coil frame
3 minRemove the nine Torx T3 screws holding down the top wireless charging coil assembly and mid-frame brackets.

Remove wireless charging coil
2 minGently lift the wireless charging coil and attached NFC antenna assembly off the back of the phone.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket. This cuts power to prevent short circuits.

Unscrew speaker housing
2 minUnscrew the four Torx T3 screws securing the lower speaker enclosure at the bottom of the phone.

Remove speaker module
2 minPry up and remove the bottom speaker module to reveal the lower daughterboard containing the primary microphone.

Disconnect microphone daughterboard cables
2 minUse a spudger to disconnect the main interconnect flex cable and two coaxial antenna cables from the bottom daughterboard.

Remove old microphone board
2 minInsert a flat tool underneath the daughterboard and pry up carefully to loosen the underlying adhesive, then lift the board out.

Install replacement microphone board
2 minAlign the new daughterboard with the microphone in the lower frame recess and press it gently into place.

Reconnect lower flex and antenna cables
2 minSnap the main interconnect flex cable and the two coaxial antenna cables back onto the new microphone daughterboard.

Reinstall speaker module
2 minPosition the speaker enclosure over the lower daughterboard and tighten the four Torx T3 screws securely.

Reconnect battery and wireless coil
4 minPress the battery cable back into its motherboard connector, reposition the wireless coil assembly, and reinstall its nine Torx T3 screws.

Seal back glass assembly
5 minReconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable, apply new adhesive strips to the frame, and press the rear glass firmly back onto the chassis.
After your Google Pixel 3 microphone repair
Power the Pixel 3 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Google Pixel 3 job before assuming the part is defective.
