Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Heat the back glass
3 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer along the edges of the rear glass for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the back cover near the bottom edge. Press firmly to secure a tight seal.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom seam. Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap.

Slice rear adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around the edges of the glass back panel. Keep the pick shallow on the right edge to avoid damaging the fingerprint cable.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor
3 minGently lift the rear glass from the left side like a book. Use tweezers to remove the metal bracket and disconnect the fingerprint flex cable.

Remove midframe screws
3 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to unthread the screws holding the plastic motherboard shield and lower midframe in place.

Remove midframe cover
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the motherboard shield and pry it up to remove it from the phone.

Disconnect battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to safely disconnect power.

Disconnect ribbon cables
3 minUnplug the display, daughterboard, and side button flex cables from their mainboard sockets.

Remove rear camera
2 minDisconnect the rear camera flex cable and carefully lift the camera module out of its recess.

Remove motherboard screws
3 minUnbolt the remaining T3 Torx screws anchoring the mainboard assembly to the aluminum frame.

Extract motherboard

Reinstall motherboard
